You are in Florida and have heard wonderful things about Walt Disney World and would love to see it. However, with ticket prices hitting $122 a day for one park admissions, $25 for parking and the high prices of meals, it is pricy and prohibited for the casual visit. So many people have not even ventured onto the grounds in fear of the costs involved with seeing the “Happiest Place On Earth”.

There is a way to see the world and even glimpse into the parks without taking out a second mortgage on your house. But before we go into that there are a few things you should know first.

  • Walt Disney World is huge. The entire property is 47 square miles, that is more than twice the size of Manhattan Island, or just over the size of the entire city of San Francisco.
  • There is a Huge Population seeking the “Disney Experience”. The daily population at Walt Disney World averages 147,000 at the four major parks, nearly another 40,000 going to Disney Springs, the Water Parks and Golf Courses, and 74,000 cast members. With non cast members working on the ground and other people just staying in the hotels or attending conventions, there could easily be 300,000 people there at any given time.
  • Mass Transportation Systems are key to getting around.   There are approximately 400 buses, 37 watercraft, 3 Monorails, parking lot trams, and a “Uber” style service called Minnie Van.  Currently being constructed is a service called Skyline that will link gondolas between multiple Disney Resorts, Disney Hollywood Studios, Epcot and the Epcot Resort area.

So let’s see how we can experince “Free” Disney. To begin with once you drive to the resort, one will need to park the car. Note that parking in the parking lots at the amusement parks and the hotels will run around $22 for the day. So what are the options her

  • Park at Disney Springs:  Currently parking at Disney Springs is free and there are buses and watercraft that go to the hotels and amusement parks all over the resort.
  • Park at the various Hotels:  This is allowed if you have reservations or plans to eat at the hotel.  Public parking is limited, but available.  Valet parking is also available at most hotels as well.  One thing to keep in mind is that Valet parking is free with a handicap sticker or tag on your vehicle.
  • Park at the amusement parks.  If one of the party has an annual Disney pass with parking included, this is a great alternative.  In this case, parking is free.  Epcot and the Transportation Center are tied to a free Monorail system, and Disney Hollywood Studios has a watercraft that goes to the boardwalk from there.

Each of the parking lots above have transportation to the other hotels, amusement parks and to Disney Springs.

In choosing where to park we must first decide which tour we would like to take. Below are links to the various “Free Disney Tours” we have posted to date. More tours will be posted as more activities and events either open up at the park or discovered by our editors. Here is the current list. Click on each link to see details about each tour.

The Boardwalk and Crescent Lake

A hidden gem that not everyone knows about is the Boardwalk and Crescent Lake area of Walt Disney World.  This area is located between EPCOT Center and Disney’s Hollywood Studio, and is connected by the Friendship Fleet of ferry boars on Crescent Lake.  The area is filled with shops, restaurants and entertainment venues for the…
